Every plan is drawn at the same scale, so footprints compare directly by eye. Each one is checked against three published thresholds: side clearance around the trainer, front clearance for cable travel, and run-off behind the treadmill belt. This is the envelope drawn as a dashed outline on every plan, and what the side column above is measured against.
The 80" front figure is the HFT Pro’s cable travel rather than a clearance rule — it is the furthest a handle can get from its pulley, so depth beyond it cannot be used. The preferred 127" envelope is wider than this room: at 123" across, a trainer centred on the back wall gets 34" per side at best, under the 36" target before anything else is counted. A 199" long wall leaves 144" to distribute around a 55" machine, which is why side clearance stops binding there.
Every verdict on this page comes from these numbers. Two of them are published guidance; the third is a spec off the machine.
Measured from each upright to the nearest wall or obstruction. The minimum is what you need to reach the weight pins and pulley adjustments and to service the machine. The preferred figure is what full-extension movements like flyes and crossovers actually use. The HFT Pro’s pulleys swivel a full 180°, so the working envelope wraps the sides, not just the front.
36" is the common floor for cable crossovers and walking lunges. 80" is the HFT Pro’s published cable travel, which is the furthest a handle can physically get from its pulley. Depth beyond roughly 80" is floor you cannot reach with a handle in your hand.
ProForm’s manuals specify at least 8 ft behind the treadmill and 2 ft on each side. ASTM F2115-05 sets a lower bar of 39" behind and 20" on each side; where the two disagree, follow the greater. The figure is travel time, not padding — at 6 mph you cover about 106 inches per second, so 96" is roughly nine-tenths of a second.
Six numbers decide which of the workable options survives contact with the room. Four can only be taken standing in it.
Measure at the wall, not the peak. 82" for the tower, plus about 12" above the chin-up bar for a full pull-up. Roughly 94" total.
The HFT Pro is 540 lb assembled, 640 lb with the 200 lb stack upgrade. On an upper floor, site it across joists and put plywood under the rubber mat.
Whether the unit is free-standing or wants wall attachment. This decides whether a window-backed wall is even available.
The 55" frame width is not the working width. Measure how far the swivel arms actually reach at the pulley heights you will use.
Distance from the stair wall to its near edge. It sets where the trainer lands along the long wall in options 01 and 03.
Options 03 through 06 put the treadmill console at the stair end, most likely needing a new outlet on its own circuit.
ProForm asks for 2 ft on each side of the treadmill. Every layout here puts one side against a wall, as almost every home install does. Keep the full 24" on the side you actually step off.
